The Burgenland Croatian Culture Association in Vienna (Hrvatsko gradišcansko kulturno društvo u Becu, HGKD) has been in existence since 1934 and is a non-partisan organization of the Burgenland Croats in Vienna. |
Basic principles and goals:
- The preservation, further development and communication of the Burgenland Croatian identity in Vienna (the Association's target group being all Burgenland
Croats, regardless of their ideology or political, religious, social of other
affiliations).
- Intercultural communication and collaboration
- Cultural work in cooperation with Croats outside Austria
- Promotion of the interests of Burgenland Croats (particularly in
Vienna)
Areas of activity:
- bilingual children's group

- Language courses for pre-schoolers, schoolchildren, youth and adults

Focal points of operation:
1) Language education programs
- Ensuring existing language programs (bilingual children's groups, language
courses)
- Developing a model for bilingual instruction and/or education from kindergarten through upper secondary school
- Establishing the Burgenland Croatian language at the post-secondary and university levels
2) Programs and services for all ages and interest groups
3) Public relations and media

- Lobbying for a broader radio and television program for and about ethnic groups in Vienna
- Information and public relations work for the Burgenland Croats and the activities of the Burgenland Croatian Culture Association in Vienna, both for the members of ethnic groups and for the Austrian and international public (revising and expanding the image of the Burgenland Croats from the cliché of a people wearing native costumes and playing the tamburica to one of Burgenland Croats in their cultural, political, ideological, economic and social diversity.
